AP file photo In this May 24, 1943, file photo, the capsized battleship USS Oklahoma is lifted out of the water at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii. The military says it has identified 100 sailors and Marines killed when the USS Oklahoma capsized during the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor 76 years ago. The milestone comes two years after the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency dug up nearly 400 sets of remains from a Hawaii to identify the men who have been classified as missing since the war.

The Sunday morning attack at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, is slowly becoming an event that only history books remember. But on this, the 76th anniversary, some Knox County citizens can still remember where they were and how it felt to hear that the U.S. was officially entering World War II.

Jason Squires

Jason L. (Jay) Squires, 44, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, surrounded by his loving family after an extended illness. He was born on July 20, 1973, in Mount Vernon, the son of Donna J. (Williams) and Jon C. Squires.
