MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Board of Health voted Wednesday to accept the resignation of Dr. Emerson Laird as the department’s medical director, effective Dec. 15.

Lair is a retired physician and has been the medical director for more than 10 years. The department is talking to physicians interested in filling the position, but it has a contract with the Knox Community Hospital to provide those services after Dec. 15 if the position is not filled by then.

Health Center CEO Lane Belangia reported that the center has started providing addiction counseling services, starting with four hours per week and gradually increasing as the need grows.
