MOUNT VERNON — Earl Wray Smith, 83, of Mount Vernon, passed away Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017, at Grant Hospital in Columbus.

He was born Sept. 12, 1934, in Ironton, Ohio, to the late Earl C. and Mary (Gossett) Smith.

Earl was a lifetime member of the Colonial City Moose Lodge and a social member of the AMVETS and the VFW. He retired from Columbia Gas after 37 years and had been a driver with Robertson Truck Sales for 22 years.

Earl is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Sheila (Farmer) Smith; two sons, Earl “Sonny” (Wendy) Smith of Fredericktown and Mike Smith from “On the Hill”; a daughter, Cindy (Don) Harbaugh of Danville; sister, Eleanor Jo (Harvey) Keckley and a brother, Jeffrey (Becky) Smith both of Mount Vernon; along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The Smith family will observe private burial at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. Friends are invited to the AMVETS on Tuesday, at noon, to celebrate Earl’s life.

The Lasater Funeral Home is handling the services for the Smith family.
