MOUNT VERNON — As people gather today to honor the men and women who have answered the call to serve in our armed forces, thoughts are also turning to those individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our freedoms.

To honor and remember those fallen heroes, the Wreaths Across America campaign is accepting donations for memorial wreaths to be placed on the grave sites of veterans in Arlington National Cemetery and throughout the nation.

Locally, cadets in the Air Force JROTC program at the Knox County Career Center will again lay wreaths at the graves of veterans interred at Mound View Cemetery, with the ceremony to take place in concert with the National Remembrance Ceremony at noon on Dec. 16.
