MOUNT VERNON — Between 80 and 100 people showed up at the Memorial Building on Friday evening to bask in a little glory.

They came because Ohio Magazine had recognized what most residents already knew — that Mount Vernon is one of the best communities in the state in which to live.

The award was presented by Lute Harmon Jr., publisher of Ohio Magazine, who said the award recognized Mount Vernon’s natural beauty, its dedication to its history and to education, and its vision of the future.

Mayor Richard Mavis recalled how the city was named “most livable city” by the magazine in the 1990s and, he said, “The type of people who earned that honor then remain here today.”
