MOUNT VERNON — The line stretched down the hallway. Nervous kids, excited parents and restless toddlers.

Over 200 youngsters from kindergarten through the 10th grade streamed into the gymnasium at First Church of the Nazarene on Coshocton Road this past weekend to register and show off their basketball skills.

All of these kids are set to play in the Upward League when games get underway in January. On Saturday, and again on Monday, league volunteers evaluated each player — a process that took more than eight hours.
