SPARTA — After a way-too-long hiatus, the Highland football team is back in the Promised Land.

The Scots advanced to the Division IV state playoffs this year, the first time since a long run of appearances ended in 2010. They will travel to St. Mary’s Memorial for a matchup with the Roughriders on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

“The kids are excited to be there. It’s a fun time right now,” said Highland coach Chad Carpenter.

The Scots may feel like they are looking into a mirror when they line up Friday night against the Roughriders (9-1). St. Mary’s runs practically the same Wing-T offense that Highland has run since Carpenter stepped in as coach 15 years ago.

The only difference may be size.
