MOUNT VERNON — Joseph D. Breece, age 97, of Mount Vernon passed away on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, at his home.

He was born on March 9, 1920, in Mount Vernon to the late Thoedore and Hazel (Wolfe) Breece. Joseph was a retired grain and poultry farmer. He was a member of the Grove Church of Christ and an 80 year member of Grange. He enjoyed sports, growing plants, bird watching and reading. Joseph was a veteran serving in the United States Army Air Corps 1942-45.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Breece; his son, Theodore Breece; his grandson, David (Melissa) Breece; and a special friend, Fred Rohe.

In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Breece.

A graveside service, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veteran’s Council, will be held on Tuesday in Union Grove Cemetery beginning at 1 p.m. with Paul Dove officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Interchurch Social Services or to the Union Grove Cemetery.
