MOUNT VERNON — City Council learned more details Monday evening about the proposed “inclusive playground” at Memorial Park.

Steve Oster, director of Knox County Board of DD, and Tami Ruhl, Creating Healthy Communities Project Coordinator with Knox County Health Department, spoke to council about the projected playground, which will be located near the picnic pavilion and will feature a soft tile surface and equipment designed for use by both handicapped and non-handicapped children.

Too often, Oster said, playground equipment suitable for handicapped children is isolated from other playground equipment.
