Bill Davis/News East Knox sophomore Drew Salyers watches his tee shot during Wednesday’s Division III district tournament in Granville.

GRANVILLE — Drew Salyers sent his approach shot on the final hole Wednesday into the trees behind the green.

He misfired from there, then managed to get out with a double-bogey.

Salyers was never worried.

He was still four strokes better than everyone else.

The East Knox sophomore shot a 2-under 69 at Denison Golf Club in Granville to take medalist honors at the Division III Central District Golf Tournament. The victory gives Salyers the only individual Central District spot in next week’s D-III state tournament in Columbus.

“I put a lot of preparation to get this,” Salyers said. “I’m glad it paid off.”

Meantime, at the other end of the course, Fredericktown’s Brandon Main and Utica’s Max Lepley wrapped up their high school careers in the Division II Central District tournament.
