MOUNT VERNON — Just a year ago, Mount Vernon was the team to beat in the Ohio Cardinal Conference.

This year, the Yellow Jacket roster is younger. But, Tuesday’s showdown with Ashland showed that the team isn’t willing to give up its crown without a fight.

Mount Vernon led for much of the first set and challenged in the second set, but there wasn’t enough in the tank as the Arrows remained undefeated with a 26-24, 25-18, 25-14 victory at The Hive.

“We played so well tonight,” Mount Vernon coach Courtney Rabold. “Yes, on paper, we lost 3-0. But, this match gave me confidence. That team (Ashland) can compete with anybody. When we play together and put it all together, this shows what we can do.”
