MOUNT VERNON — A Utica man who left his child in a parked car on an 80-degree day was sentenced to jail time in Mount Vernon Municipal Court.

Donald Ireland, 35, was sentenced Monday to 27 days in jail on one count of endangering children by Municipal Court Judge John Thatcher.

Ireland pleaded guilty to the charge Monday at a pre-trial hearing, and the case proceeded immediately to sentencing. The charge is a first-degree misdemeanor and carries up to 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

City Law Director Rob Broeren was unavailable for comment.
