CENTERBURG — Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy Shari Rice is the inaugural school resource officer for Centerburg. She was at Monday’s school board meeting to introduce herself to the board and said she is excited to be an official part of the school system.

Board president Roger Clark welcomed Rice to the team. Elementary principal John Morgan said she is “phenomenal” and is building bridges between law enforcement and the students by doing things such as visiting classrooms and playing kickball with the children. Middle school teacher Vicki Eckhart said the older students also seem to like having her around.
