MOUNT VERNON — Items located in a fire at what appears to be a homeless camp may have been stolen.
A Mount Vernon Police Department report stated that jewelry, a tackle box and a kitchen knife were recovered following investigation of a fire in the area of the 300 block of Fountain Street. The fire was reported at approximately 12:49 p.m., Monday, when a Fountain Street resident reported hearing shots fired and saw smoke in the direction of some nearby woods.
Upon arrival, a camp fire was found “in the early stages of spreading,” according to a MVPD. Mount Vernon Fire Department was summoned and contained the fire.
