MOUNT VERNON — An infestation of an insect known as calico scale has affected about 40 sweet gum trees in Memorial Park, City Parks Superintendent Dave Carpenter reported at the mayor’s weekly press briefing Friday.

Carpenter said he had a consultant in and the trees were treated Wednesday. He will check the trees in a couple weeks to see how they are doing.

The city is now taking applications for the Sept. 6 and 8 goose hunts. Applications may be picked up at the Parks office, 307 Wooster Road.
