MOUNT VERNON — Landlords can evict tenants they suspect are using drugs, but they have to go through the courts to turn them out.

Drug users have no special protections when it comes to eviction, Dennis Harrington, managing attorney with Southeastern Legal services, said. If a judge decides, in a civil court proceeding, that the landlord has a good case, the eviction proceedings are likely to be successful.
