MOUNT VERNON — Diners at the Bad Apple Pub in Apple Valley on Saturday were in for a special treat.
Wrestlers acted as servers. Coaches were bartenders. Administrators sold sandwiches. Friends mingled for hours.
All in the name of John Brown.
“He took Mount Vernon wrestling and made it well-known throughout the state,” Bad Apple Pub owner Steve McCurdy said. “Those kids not only became good wrestlers, but they became good men.”
For most of the afternoon and evening, the Bad Apple Pub dedicated its porch area to raising money in its inaugural John Brown Memorial Bash. Coaches and administrators sold sandwiches and Mount Vernon wrestling paraphernalia from a table, while coaches served up drinks from the bar.
