Tips lead to pot

Aided by tips and a drone, Knox County sheriff’s deputies confiscated more than 1,000 marijuana plants.
Sheriff David Shaffer reported Wednesday that 1,018 marijuana plants were taken from cornfields in Howard and Butler townships.

Activity consistent at animal shelter

MOUNT VERNON — All is normal at the Knox County Animal Shelter, according to Dog Warden John Carhart.
Carhart reported to the Knox County Commissioners on Thursday that 46 dogs entered the shelter during June and 46 left the shelter.

Incorrect sales tax charged in F’town

The cash register at the Goodwill Score in Fredericktown was mistakenly set to charge too much sales tax, but the situation should be corrected.
The cash register was charging 7 percent sales tax, when Knox County’s tax is actually 6.75 percent.

Regional planning personnel shuffled

The Regional Planning Commission acted Thursday to keep the Regional Planning office operating while Executive Secretary Darrel Severns is on medical leave.
According to Soil and Water Conservation District Administrator Rob Clendening, Severns was injured when the mower he was on overturned last Saturday.

Sheriff, judge prepping for new probation program

Sheriff Dave Shaffer told commissioners Thursday he has met with Judge Richard Wetzel about the T-AP (Targeted Alternatives to Prison) and the court’s probation department is still working on the logistics for implementing the program.
T-AP is a program approved by the General Assembly to reduce the population at state prisons.
