MOUNT VERNON — Personal trainer Mark Stone chose his career because of his desire to help others.

“Growing up, I was a small, skinny kid who got bullied a lot,” he told the News. “They would make fun of me and I just wanted to find a way to help others avoid what I went through. I wanted to get strong, get educated and help other teens.”

A 2006 graduate of East Knox High School, Stone attended Capital University and earned a degree in exercise science with a minor in health. In addition to health classes, his course of study included a wide range of science classes, such as anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, chemistry and biology. During his junior and senior college years, he worked as a personal trainer under supervision, actually trained faculty members and earned credits for doing so.
