MOUNT VERNON — Emma Lucas of The Lighthouse 4-H Club was pleasantly surprised Thursday evening when she won Best of Show at the 2017 4-H Style Revue and Awards Program.

Emma, the daughter of Sean and Mehgan Lucas, said winning was amazing and a good way to finish out her 4-H career. Asked why she has chosen sewing projects, Emma said sewing teaches invaluable skills a person can use throughout life.

“For example,” she explained, “you can sew a button on a blouse or fix a tear instead of throwing the garment away. You can also make sure the item is well-fitted and pick fabrics that suit you best.”
