MOUNT VERNON — The Community Emergency Response Team has been reactivated, Emergency Management Agency Director Mark Maxwell told the EMA board at its meeting Thursday, and the volunteers had their first official operation at the city’s Fourth of July celebration, helping police and firefighters by manning barricades for crowd and traffic control.

Maxwell said there was an active CERT team some years ago, but it had become inactive until this group completed training.
