MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon 12-under All-Stars were on cruise control Thursday. That is, until Cambridge revved its engine.

Cambridge sent 13 batters to the plate and scored nine runs in the third inning to snatch the lead away from Mount Vernon. The team then held on after a late rally to win Thursday’s District 5 semifinal, 13-8.

Mount Vernon, the visiting team Thursday even though the game was at Phillips Park, demonstrated plenty of energy early. After spotting Cambridge a run in the first, the Mount Vernon All-Stars put up five runs in the first two innings to take a 5-1 lead.
