MOUNT VERNON — Knox County Sheriff David Shaffer said he is considering doing mental health evaluations for inmates in-house that are currently done by a contracted employee.

Shaffer informed the Knox County Commissioners Thursday that 14-day inmate mental health assessments at the jail have cost $30,240 over a seven-month period from November 2016 to May 2017. There were 216 assessments performed in the seven-month period.
