UTICA — Shortly after Mount Vernon’s MC Sports closed up shop, Brian Hess of Utica purchased many of the store’s display units for the opening of his new business, Elite Preparedness, 25580 Bell Church Road.
“I bought the wall units, aisle shelving and I bought all the gun display units,” Hess told the News.

Inspired by the success of his wife’s business, Hess decided in 2016 to begin a business of his own. Having taught conceal-carry courses in the past and possessing emergency preparedness knowledge, Hess decided to combine the two and open Elite Preparedness, a family destination for learning gun safety and survival tactics.
