Alzheimer’s caregivers’ support group starting

Caring for a person with Alzheimer’s disease is a challenge. Changes in the person’s behavior, caused by the progress of the disease, can lead to frustration and anxiety for a caregiver. To help those who care for individuals who have Alzheimer’s disease or a related memory loss disorder, the Alzheimer’s Association, Northwest Ohio Chapter, invites anyone who has a family member or friend with memory loss to attend the following support group meeting.

Fredericktown recognized at state FFA Convention

Recently, members of the Fredericktown FFA chapter attended the 89th Ohio FFA State Convention. The event was held at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus. It was open to FFA chapters from all parts of the state and gives recognition to those who have accomplished great tasks within their state and community in the past year.

Centerburg staff gets pay raise

The Centerburg Board of Education on Monday voted to give staff members a 2 1/5 percent raise in base pay for the 2017-18 school year. The increase applies to teachers, classified staff and the school psychologist, curriculum director, transportation director and athletic director. Administrators such as the elementary and secondary principal, the superintendent and the treasurer will not receive the increase.

New option in city quest for funds

Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis was hoping his City Finance Study Group would give a recommendation to City Council to request a 1/2 percent income tax increase on the November ballot. What he got from Monday’s meeting was an unexpected option.
