MARYSVILLE — Fredericktown pitcher Nick Cunningham threw 6 1/3 innings of no hit ball, showing that he could be dominant on the mound.

He also showed that, when things got tough, he could gut it out to get the win.

He needed both of those qualities on Wednesday evening to stop the West Jefferson Roughriders. The Fredericktown righty, boosted by an early two-run triple by teammate Cole Bebout, tossed a one-hitter to lift the Freddies to their first Division III Central District championship in three seasons. The top-seeded Freddies defeated fourth seeded West Jefferson, 3-1, at Marysville High School to gain a berth in the regionals.
