MOUNT VERNON — Students making outstanding progress in academics, social skills and community service were applauded Tuesday during the Education in Action Award program.

Family and friends celebrated the achievements of students from Clear Fork, Highland, North Fork and Northridge, as well as from schools throughout Knox County.

As the names were announced, the person who nominated each student spoke about how the student overcame barriers and became a success. The students then received an award certificate and trophy. Both individual and group accomplishments were recognized.
