DANVILLE — A man was taken to the hospital Tuesday after almost drowning in the Kokosing River.

Sam Shaffer was transported by an Eastern Knox County Joint Fire District squad from the river access near Hazel Dell Road to Knox Community Hospital, where he was treated and released, hospital officials said.

Emergency personnel were paged out for a water rescue at 3:02 p.m., according to Knox County 911 records.
