FREDERICKTOWN — At the Monday meeting of Fredericktown Council, firefighters with the Fredericktown Community Fire District spoke out against consolidation with the Fredericktown Community Joint Emergency Ambulance District.

FCFD firefighter Jason Bostic, acting as spokesperson for the half-dozen firefighters at the meeting, said consolidation would result in loss of volunteers and a larger burden on taxpayers.

Bostic said there has been talk that the FCFD’s new fire board will look at merging the two departments into one. The firefighters “are not in favor” of such a move, Bostic said.

The fire district and ambulance district, located on Columbus Road in Fredericktown, operate as two separate entities.
