Mount Vernon High School orchestra members participate in an instrumental music workshop at Disney in Florida. Notice the “hats.”

 

MOUNT VERNON — It was the trip of a lifetime for many of the 162 Mount Vernon High School musicians who recently visited Disney World. Along with five directors and 13 chaperones, the students filled four coach buses and departed for the Magic Kingdom in Florida on March 8, returning to school on March 13.

The groups were invited to the Disney Performing Arts events after submitting an application and auditioning for the privilege. Band Director Andrew Sundman said because the chosen groups represent Disney for the day, the organizers were looking for musicians who were on the caliber with performances they have with the professionals around the park. Disney was also particular about what the musicians wore when they performed; they had to present a professional appearance.
