MOUNT VERNON — Vandals struck Ariel-Foundation Park again this week, overturning half a dozen heavy, marble-topped benches in the area of the Community Foundation Pavilion.

Parks Superintendent Dave Carpenter said four of the benches that were overturned were unharmed, one had the marble top separate from its pedestal and one he wasn’t sure of. The base of the bench that had come apart was found in the nearby Reflecting Pond.

“We’ll have to reglue the one that came apart and we’ll have to look at ways to better anchor the benches,” Carpenter said.

The incident was reported Wednesday. Other benches were overturned, and some damaged, before Christmas.
