Alula Hunsen

MOUNT VERNON — Based on his high ACT and SAT test scores and exceptional scholarship, the United States Department of Education has selected Alula Teslaye Hunsen as a candidate for the prestigious U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. The program is one of the highest honors graduating seniors can earn and applications are by invitation only.

The chosen candidates must then complete and submit materials for review, including essays, self-assessments, school reports and transcripts for review by a select committee. Semifinalists will be announced in April.

Hunsen, a senior at Mount Vernon High School, said he feels pretty honored to be chosen.
