Geoff Cowles/News Highland’s Taylor Belcher (12) looks to score while Centerburg’s Maddy Harmon (13) defends during Tuesday’s Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference game. The Scots won, 46-40.

CENTERBURG — The Centerburg Trojans (8-8, 6-4 MOAC) came out strong on the offensive boards in the first quarter, but they fizzled out. The visiting Highland Scots (6-12, 5-5 MOAC), down 20-15 at halftime, scrapped their way to a 46-40 upset win in Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference play on Tuesday.

The Trojans appeared to be in control after getting a pair of field goals, including a 3-pointer from Cierra Joiner (11 points) to open the second half, but the Scots countered with a bucket from Taylor Belcher (14 points) and two more from freshman teammate Madison Cecil (12 points). With 2:30 to go in the third quarter, Highland’s Raven Tilford (three points, six rebounds) landed the back end of a pair of free throws to bring her team to within a point, 25-24. Then, Cecil grabbed a steal and took it down court for the go-ahead layup and a 26-25 lead.
