BELLVILLE — The Mount Vernon girls basketball team started hot, then stayed hot to the final buzzer.
The Yellow Jackets made short work of their Ohio Cardinal Conference foe on Thursday, winning 71-28 on the road.

The Jackets hit nine 3-pointers — all in the first half — and put up 45 points by halftime.

“That first half was as good of a shooting exhibition as any team I’ve had,” said Mount Vernon head coach Doug Savage. “They never let up.”

Maggie Nussbaum and Alexa Skal led the onslaught with three 3-pointers each. Taylor Gregory hit a pair of 3s on her way to a game-high 21 points. Denasan Spalla added the other trey.

Peyton McCord finished with 15 points. She and Gregory shared the rebounding lead with eight apiece. The Jackets out rebounded the Colts, 37-19, and had 16 offensive boards.
