CENTERBURG — The Heart of Ohio Trail is another step closer to completion. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Friday in Centerburg to open the two-mile section of trail from Clayton Street in Centerburg to Huffman Road.

The newest section includes the pedestrian bridge over U.S. 36/Ohio 3, installed in September.

Knox County Park District Director Lori Totman said the section from Huffman Road to the Delaware-Licking County line remains. Since that piece includes a section in Licking County, Totman said they are working with Licking County to complete the trail to where it will connect with a trail in Delaware County.

Members of the Heart of Ohio Trail Board, the Park District Board of Commissioners, volunteers, representatives of Centerburg, volunteers and others gathered in the cold, snowy weather to be part of the ribbon-cutting, staged by the Knox County Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber Director Carol Grubaugh said the quality of life in Knox County is superior and the bike trails are one of its jewels. They are an important part of the efforts to attract business and industry here because businesses and professionals look for things like trails in evaluating a community.
