BLADENSBURG — Lyrena “Rene” Morton, 98, of Bladensburg, died Sunday evening, Nov. 27, 2016, at the Mount Vernon Health and Rehabilitation Center, where she had resided for three years. She was born May 7, 1918, in Monroe County, to the late James “Jay” and Margaret “Maggie” (Bauer) Devore.

Rene was an active member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ in Utica, where she taught Bible class for over 50 years. She enjoyed farming and gardening on the family farm near Bladensburg and was well known for her waffle cookies, raisin cookies and homemade noodles.

Rene is survived her children, Jim Morton of Bladensburg and Susi (Dick) Ogilbee of Utica; grandchildren, Diana “Dee” Morton and Kyle Ogilbee; great-grandchildren, Jeremy Tatum, Hannah and Haley Ogilbee; and a great-great-granddaughter, Lorallei Tatum.

In addition to her parents, Rene was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Edgar Morton in 1997; grandson, Jon Morton; sisters, Thelma Chadwick and Edra Litman; and brother, Chester Devore.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, Nov. 30, from 4-6 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the funeral following at 1 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 East High St., Mount Vernon, with Mr. Keith Malone officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Hospice of one’s choice.
