CENTERBURG — Wednesday night on the mats in Centerburg saw the host Trojans come close to taking down one of the region’s better wrestling programs.

It was a night that saw a two-pin performance by Highland’s 120-pounder, Mike Stewart, showing why he is one of the area’s best.

In Wednesday’s quad meet, the Trojans won their dual against a Johnstown Johnnies team that has fewer wrestlers than in recent years, 42-25, but not before nearly pulling off a big Senior Day win against Northmor, which won, 40-37.

“Northmor you’ve got to respect,” said Centerburg coach Mark McCann. “They’re a legendary wrestling school. They’ve put a lot of guys in state.”

Centerburg actually did better than Northmor in head-to-head competition, but lost the dual due to not being able to fill two weight classes.
