HOWARD — The East Knox volleyball team has been a scrappy bunch all year.
Even though they have just nine high school players in the program, the Bulldogs have scrapped their way to a good season. Saturday, they were hoping to fight their way to a sectional title.
But, Marion Pleasant proved to be too much for the Bulldogs, as the Spartans pulled out a 25-17, 25-15, 25-18 victory in the Division III sectional final at East Knox.
“Pleasant is an outstanding team. They came out and hit today. They were able to do a lot of nice things,” said East Knox coach Bill Schultz. “I felt like we were a bit off. We hadn’t played in over a week and it showed in some of our hitting.”
East Knox (17-6) was able to make some nice plays against the taller Pleasant squad, but just couldn’t seem to get anything strung together. The Bulldogs scored more than two points in a row just three times in the entire three sets.
