CROTON — For the second straight week, the boys race at a cross country meet at Hartford Fairgrounds came down to Highland and Fredericktown.
Once again, the Scots came out on top.
Highland edged Fredericktown in the Blue Division race at the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference championships on Saturday, while the Fredericktown girls had a solid showing but finished second to Mount Gilead.
The Scots (33 points) had four of the top eight runners in the boys race. Highland’s Logan Ebersole (16:30.5) was the highest-placing local runner, finishing third. He was joined by teammates Kevin Jones (fourth, 16:39.2), Josh Irvin (sixth, 17:01.8) and Devin Johnson (eighth, 17:11.1).
“We’ve been pushing it really hard,” said Jones after the race. “We’ve had injuries, and that’s put us back a little bit. But it’s pushed us harder. Everyone pushes each other.”
James Hubbard’s 12th place finish (17:28.4) helped seal the deal for the Scots. Hubbard played football last year. But, with the help of his new teammates, he was able to jump right in and make his mark.
