DANVILLE — The Fighting Irish of Note Dame finally came to Danville. No, not the South Bend, Ind., variety.
The small high school in Clarksburg, W. Va., which was undefeated and state-ranked, made the four-hour bus ride to get a taste of Friday night high school football in Ohio.
It was soon apparent that the Fighting Irish (4-1) had bitten off more than they could chew.
The Danville Blue Devils pasted 30 unanswered points on the Irish and went on to deal them a 65-22 drubbing, piling up 504 yards of total offense.
“We wanted to punch them in the mouth right away,” said Danville head coach Ed Honabarger. “We wanted to take the air out from underneath them. I think we did that right away.”
