SPARTA — Highland senior James Cochran stood on the sidelines during most of the second half of Friday’s game against Mount Gilead. His hair was wet. His fingers had grass stains. He wore a big smile showing that, if needed, he was ready.

Cochran rushed for 165 yards and four touchdowns in the second quarter alone, giving the Scots an insurmountable lead and propelling them to a 49-6 victory over the Indians.
Cochran ended the game with 250 yards on the ground on 28 carries. He scored his fifth and final touchdown on his last touch — a three-yard dive with 4:29 to go in the third.
