MOUNT VERNON — A few breaks can make all the difference in soccer.
The Delaware Hayes Pacers scored two goals in under a minute — one on a penalty kick — while Mount Vernon missed two big scoring chances of its own late in the second half. The 2-0 home loss on Tuesday was a disappointment for Mount Vernon head coach Scott Dapprich.
“I was not real pleased with how we came out,” said Dapprich. “We’ve got a lot of seniors on this team, and I felt that certain guys have become complacent.”
The match was balanced until Hayes (2-8, 1-4 Ohio Capital Conference) scored on a penalty kick in the 20th minute. Tyler Zinader was tripped in the box while trying to control the ball. Zinader’s shot in the lower right corner was too fast for goalkeeper Kyle Dunnavant to have any chance.
