MOUNT VERNON — A familiar face will be back on the bench when basketball season resumes in Mount Vernon.
Doug Savage has accepted the position of girls head basketball coach at the high school. The position became available after recently-hired Marcie Alberts left to take a position at Indiana-Purdue at Fort Wayne.
The hiring became official Monday at the Mount Vernon school board meeting.
“I’m really excited,” Savage told the News. “I missed the competition. There was a lot of excitement in the gymnasium.”
Savage returns to a position he held from 2006 until 2010, when he retired from teaching at Mount Vernon Middle School. Savage also coached the MVHS baseball program for 22 years.
