CENTERBURG — The Danville-Centerburg football game Friday had more twists and turns than a Stephen King thriller.
Nine lead changes, an interception return for a score, a kickoff return for a score and nine touchdown plays of more than 15 yards weren’t enough as it took overtime before Centerburg finally pulled out a 55-54 victory over the visiting Blue Devils.
“The seniors have had this game circled on the schedule for a long time. They wanted to prove they were the real deal,” said Centerburg coach Jim Stoyle. “There were so many ups and downs. The thing I’m most proud of is we were resilient all night long. We kept coming back and doing the things we needed to do.”
“We battled. The kids played hard. In a shootout like that, we just made a few more mistakes than they did,” said Danville coach Ed Honabarger.
