FREDERICKTOWN — For the first time, conference rivals Fredericktown and Centerburg met in a Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference volleyball match.
The two former Mid-Buckeye Conference foes may be in a new lineup of schools, but it didn’t take away from one of the area’s fiercest volleyball rivalries. The Centerburg Trojans may be rebuilding, but when they rolled into Fredericktown on Thursday to take on the Freddies, it was one more chapter in a history of great battles between the schools.
The young Trojans held their own against the Fredericktown Freddies’ big guns, but eventually lost, 25-20, 13-25, 27-25, 25-18.
“They want to go at each other,” said Centerburg coach Brielle Sautter. “All of them want to win. This is the game they want all season.”
The Trojans, with Madi Gregory (five kills, 16 assists, 14 digs) serving, grabbed a 12-11 first-set lead on a pair of Hannah Ervin kills. Ervin had 10 kills for the game to go with 11 blocks and eight digs.
