MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets kept hammering away at the Franklin Heights Falcons, but kept coming up empty.
Unlike in their last game, when the Jackets’ boys soccer team scored goals in bunches, Tuesday’s Ohio Capital Conference opener at Yellow Jackets Stadium looked like it might go into the books as a scoreless tie.
However, after 74 minutes and 4 seconds passed, Mount Vernon co-captain Alex Glibert took a feed from teammate Sage Whisner and scored the only goal of the game, giving his team a 1-0 victory.
“We had a lot of opportunities,” said Glibert. “We just couldn’t convert. We just kept plugging away until we finally got one.”
Mount Vernon (2-0-1, 1-0 OCC) had 11 shots on goal and only allowed the Falcons two, both of which were free kicks.
