SPARTA — The Highland High School Class of 2015 officially took over the volleyball court on Tuesday evening.
Yes, the class of 2014 is still set to graduate next spring, but you will not see any of them on the girls volleyball roster. The Highland Scots, led by their junior class, romped over visiting North Union (1-1) in their Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference interdivisional matchup to sweep the season opener, 25-12, 25-8, 25-17.
They may be young but the Scots, led by junior Kam Terry’s 16 kills, have plenty of experience under their belts.
“We have no seniors, but we have six lettermen,” said Highland coach Rob Terrill. “We started two freshmen and four sophomores last year. Both of our setters were sophomores and they started last year — Lexi Winklefoos (eight assists) and Carly Gahm (22 assists). They’re not seniors but they are well seasoned. We had a good summer preseason and some good scrimmages against some good teams. They’re ready to play.”
