MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets earned their first win of the season on the soccer pitch Tuesday. And they did so decisively.
Eight different Jackets scored in Tuesday’s 9-0 blowout victory over the visiting River View Black Bears at Yellow Jacket Stadium.
“We played hard, we put pressure on the ball, and we had communication,” said Mount Vernon head coach Scott Dapprich. “I saw all three tonight.”
Mount Vernon (1-0-1) was in full attack mode throughout the entire match. In the second half, Dapprich emptied his bench and moved players into unfamiliar positions. The players responded, staying in position and orchestrating offensive plays to set up clear shots.
“We did a lot of rotation of different guys. You’re looking for a variety of team-building stuff,” said Dapprich. “They did a very nice job in adjusting to different roles very quickly. We have worked on set pieces, and the neat thing is, we scored four of our goals off of those types of actions.”
