MOUNT VERNON — It may be the most senior-laden Yellow Jacket soccer team in years, but the boys still lack varsity experience.
However, it was a great combined effort by experienced veterans and newcomers that led Mount Vernon to a 2-2 draw with Mansfield Madison at Yellow Jacket Stadium on Saturday.
“(Madison) always plays physical. We knew that going in,” said Mount Vernon head coach Scott Dapprich. “It prepares us a lot for our conference play.”
Trailing by a goal with five minutes left in the first half, Alex Glibert sent a pass inside to Ben Cochran, who deflected the ball into the Madison net to tie the match at 1. Two minutes later, newcomer Perry Studebaker one-timed a pass from Jack Eddy toward the net. A Madison defender headed the ball in a different direction, past the goalkeeper and into the goal.
