DANVILLE — The Centerburg Trojans, led by Stacey Fielding (13 points) and Kendall Compton (12 points), defeated the Danville Blue Devils, 45-34, in Thursday Mid-Buckeye Conference girls basketball action.
Centerburg (5-2, 4-1 MBC) jumped out to a 13-3 lead, benefiting from four first-quarter baskets from Compton. Fielding added a pair of field goals in the opening quarter as the Trojans finished 15-for-39 (38 percent) shooting for the game.
“We got off to a good start tonight as far as what we wanted to do on both ends of the court,” said Centerburg coach Todd Nauman. “I was pleased with what we did. I was pleased with some of the execution.”
Danville (4-4, 2-3 MBC) had trouble getting anything going offensively, despite the fact that seven of their 15 rebounds in the first half were on the offensive side of the court. Only posts Madison (five points, seven rebounds) and Taylor Banbury (seven points) managed to hit a bucket for Danville in the first quarter. The Blue Devils shot 13-for-60 for the game to go 22 percent from the floor.
“We just didn’t execute anything,” said Danville coach Shane Henry. “When you see a triangle-two formation you have to adjust and we just never made that adjustment. We missed a couple of shots and a couple of our kids got their heads down.”
